A Judge's Mill Creek Settlement
Judge Samuel W. Dexter founded the 'Mill Creek Settlement' in 1824, damming the creek that year for a saw mill and adding a grist mill soon after; the village was platted and renamed Dexter in 1830.
Plumbing in Homes Older Than Modern Water Service
Many of Dexter's oldest homes, built in the decades after the judge's original 1824 mill, predate any municipal water or sewer connection entirely, so their plumbing was added well after original construction and often routed around framing that was never designed to carry it.
